Summary: | One factor determining the failure of orthodontic treatment is anchorage
loss. Anchorage loss was happened due to unwanted molar movement to mesial.
Angle Class I malocclusion cases can be accompanied by variation of crowding
and overjet. Begg technique can be used for correction Angle Class I
malocclusion. The aim of this study was to compare anchorage loss in cases with
variation overjet and crowding using Begg technique in malocclusion Angle Class
I with four first premolars extraction.
The subjects of this study were consisted of 20 models with criteria Angle
Class I malocclusion which had four first premolars extraction, maximum
anchorage, 18-30 years of age, 2-4 mm and > 4 mm of overjet, severe and
moderate crowding according to Little index, and treated by resident ortodontic
Education Program Specialist Dentist Faculty of Dentistry, University of Gadjah
Mada in 1995-2013. Anchorage loss measurement used Zieger and Ingerval
method. The data were obtained, inputed to coreldraw x-5 software and
statistically processed by two ways ANAVA.
Result showed anchorage loss between normal overjet and more than
normal had p=0.231 for maxilla and p=0.199 for mandible, severe crowding and
moderate crowding had p=0.123 for maxilla and p=0.269 for mandible, also
interaction between overjet and severity of crowding had p=0.184 for maxilla and
p=0.637 for mandible. It was concluded that there were no major difference in
anchorage loss between normal overjet and more than normal, moderate and
severe crowding, and there was no interaction between the overjet and the
severity of crowding with the amount of anchorage loss in the Begg technique.
