Description
Summary:Ciputri upriver, Bandung, West Java has polluted by heavy metal Mn coming from cow feces in the Cikidang village. Ligumia nasuta (Say, 1817) as an aquatic organism usually use as bioaccumulator for metal, such as manganese. The aim of research is to study Mn accumulation in the Eastern Pondmussel Ligumia nasuta (Say, 1817). Mn contents in the water, extra pallial fluid, kidney, hemolymph, gills, foot, digestive gland, mantle, and intestine were determined by Atomic Absorbance Spectrophotometer (AAS). The mussels were collected at day 0, 1, and 6 after transplantation at 3 stations: before, near, and after pollution sources. The results show that Mn2+ accumulation was in the digestive gland (25 mmol kg-1 ww) at station 2, day 6. The highest Mn accumulation was in the digestive gland followed by the gills, mantle, kidney, foot, intestine, extra pallial fluid, and hemolymph. At day 6, accumulation of Mn in the gills was 6.2 -fold of control followed by the digestive gland (2.5-fold) and mantle (2.2-fold). It showed that exposure of Mn to the mussels taken place via water. Key word: Accumulation, Ligumia nasuta, Mn
