ABSTRAK The raising price of medicine is community's unrest. Alternative medicine that used traditional medicine is really assisting low economic communities that supported with natural condition that rich with traditional medicine, and activating traditional medicine is an effort to maintain and prevent health. One of the effective ways to improve community's knowledge and attitude is through health cadre because cadre is a very potential communicator in conveying health information to community. This effort could be done through training activity of cadre by giving interpersonal communication skill that accompanied with leaflet media. This research was aimed to find out the influence of health promotion regarding utilization of traditional medicine with interpersonal communication technique by cadre that accompanied with leaflet media in improving knowledge and attitude of housewife. This research used quasi-experimental with pre-testand post-test control group design. The population was housewives. The number of the sample was 90 people who were divided into 2 experiment groups, which were a group of cadre who was trained with material of traditional medicine utilization standard with leaflet and group of cadre who was trained with standard material of interpersonal communication technique. Questioner of knowledge and attitude was used to collect the data. This is a quasi experiment that used pre-test and post-test with control group design. The population was housewives and there were 90 housewives that were divided into 2-treatment groups and J control group. The sample determination used multistage random sampling. Data analysis used homogeneity Paired t-test, Anova and LSD test. Knowledge and attitude of cadre during posttest showed a very significant improvement. The result of LSD showed that treatment group I was more able to improve knowledge and attitude rather than treatment group II. Interpersonal communication by cadre about the utilization ot traditional medicine that accompanied by leaflet is effective in improving knowledge and attitude of housewife.
