Summary:ABSTRAK This research was intended to study the kinetics of pyrolisis of rubber seed oil batch wise with sodium hydroxide as catalyst The process was carried out in a stainless stell reactor, equiped with feeding device, thermocouple and Glass Raschig ring packed tower. Heat was gradually supplied to the reactor by a kerosene burner. The products obtained were liquid distillate consisted of organic liquid and water layers, tar and gas. The gas evolved was measured by water displacement method, and analyzed by means of an Orsat's gas apparatus. The total acid value of the organic liquid layer was determined by titrating it with standard potassium hydroxide solution. The variable investigated were time, temperature, and weight ratio of liquid sodium hydroxide to rubber seed oil. Pyrolisis followed first order reaction with respect to fatty acid. Within the range of variable studied, the effect of temperature to the reaction rate constant followed Arrhenius equation, while the weight ratio of liquid sodium hydroxide to rubber seed oil affected the reaction rate constant logarithmically. Several tests were conducted to determine the properties of the product according to ASTM standard method, and the results were: specific gravity at 60760°F 0,8316, flash point (Pensky Martens Closed Cup) 152°F, ASTM colour 3.5, kinematic viscosity at 100°F 1.964 Cst, cetane index 32, total acid number 28 mg KOH/g liquid, and gross heating value 46168 J/g.
