Summary:The objectives of this experiment was to study the Penaeus monodon Fab., after being injected with hormones, or suffering from eyestalk ablation. The hormones injected were 0.01 ug estrogen and 0.01 ug progesterone per gram body-weight in a single dose injection, in 0.20 ml vehicle (sesame oil). The results of this experiment indicated that the treatments have caused ovarian development and spawning of the prawmn, whereas the animal received vehicle only underwent molting. The fastest ovarian maturation achieved by the eyestalk ablation (17.50 days), while the other treatment showed a slower rate (31.60 days by progesterone and 42.3 days by estrogen treatments).
