Although the sample is small it is clear that weight only is not very effective for measuring the nutritional status of the children. Using W/A (Weight for Age) and its standard deviations (SD) there is considerable possibility that vulnerable children (with low nutritional status) will not be discovered. Measurements includingW/A, H/A (Height for Age), and W/11 (Weight for Height) allow the nutritional status of children to be better differentiated so that in community the categories of PCM (Protein Calorie Malnutrition) are clearer. Wasting of children in the community is common and mothers are not aware of differences in severity or afraid of the possibility of death in most cases. The mortality rate because of overt undernutrition is small in this community. Morley has developed the Child Health Card using W/A as a -mord toring aid for the health of the under-fives. Recently this card has come into widespread use throughout every weighing activity in Indonesia. However, using 60% of the median of the Harvard standard as the cut-off point (red line), recent data shows the prevalence of PCM in preschool children still at the same level as Tarwotjo's data in 1979, namely 3%. Weighing programmes use a sequence of 4 tables where different actifities are carried out: Registration.,Weighing., Noting the result on the card., advice. Key words : Village Weighing Programme, Medical Morbidity Survey, Protein Calory Malnutrition, Weight for Age, Height for Age, Weight for Height [Yogyakarta] : Universitas Gadjah Mada 1989 Article NonPeerReviewed Perpustakaan UGM, i-lib (1989) Peranan Program Penimbangan Balita di Pedesaan dan Dampaknya Pada Masa Kini.
