Summary:Good performance among other important performances in control systems is low overshoot. Implementation of PID Ziegler-Nichols as a standard compensator used in speed control of a DC motor shows an excessive speed overshoot. Therefore it should be reduced. A fuzzy logic controller will be added to the PID Ziegler-Nichols so that the overall performance will be enhanced Rules and range of membership functions have been developed based on the transient response produced by PID Ziegler-Nichols. Combination of PID Ziegler-Nichols and the fuzzy logic controller can reduce speed overshoot from 26 % to 3 % as shown in this paper.
