ABSTRACT The title of this research is Man in the Existensialism of Murtadha Mutahhari. There are three aims of the research: first, to understand man in the existensialism of Murtadha Mutahhari, primarly, to regard that existence is prior to essence. The discussion about existence and essence refers to the question which one is more substance. Second, to understand the Mutahhari's ideas relates to wheather human is free or determinated by outside power of himself. Third, how far the influence of destiny in the human life. The research based on the Mutahhari's ideas that man is what his choices. This research based on Mutahhari's work as primary sources and works by others which discusses existensialism and ideas Mutahhari as secondary sources. The methods of this research comprise of data gathering, interpretation, intern coherency, comparison with some ideas of others philosophers, and heuristic to find the new idea of Mutahhari. According to Mutahhari, man is both determined by his existence and by his choices. In other word, man determines his own destiny. Without trying of man it is imposible that the destiny will be happened. Key words: existence, essence, freedom and destiny
