Summary: | This research is aimed at presenting a transcription, a translation, and a structural narrative analysis of the text Jayaprana in the form of a recording of dance-drama performance. The transcription includes all utterances of the narrators (dalang) and, all the characters' utterances in their dialogues, the tandak, the sendon, and the musical accompaniment or gending along the performance. The text of transcription in Balinese then translated into Indonesian. This translation is done word by word. To make this translation text more readable for the readers, another text of adaption which is simpler is regarded as necessary. The materials of this research (in the documents of various forms and text of Jayaprana, both in recording and in writing, both oral and visual) are collected using desk study and field study. The data collection techniques were making copies (text, cassette, and other written information), conducting interviews (to collect oral information of the text Jayaprana which are owned by the people of Kalianget, the narrators, and the directors who in 1960's and 1970's were well known because of the text Jayaprana they were working on), and making observation (of the proceeding of the ritual of worshiping the spirits of I Nyoman Jayaprana and Ni Nyoman Layonsari, both in Kalianget and in Trima Bay). The technique of note-taking is also used when the transcription of the recording of Jayaprana dance-drama performance is being done. The analysis which has been done shows that there are 202 narrative event units (57 kernels and 145 satellites). The relationship between kernels can be classified into two categories, that is linear and causal. The order of those events can be classified into normal order (the order of its story events is parallel with their presentations in the performance discourse). This is notunrelated to the typical feature of traditional narratives. The story begins when I Nyoman Jayaprana was still in his childhood and ends when the kingdom of Kalianget ruined. Therefore, it is estimated that the story time is tens years. The discourse of dance-drama performance summarizes this story time into a performance duration of 2.56.12 hours (discourse time). The summarization results from the shifts of story space and story time, The ellipsis occurs because the discourse presents two narrative events (which occur in almost the same story time) alternately so that the discourse has to cut the story sequence which is running. The discourse of dance-drama performance is dominated by frequency form which is singular (the presentation of a single discourse of one single event). In addition, it is also found that there are frequency forms which are repetitive (to achieve actualization intensity) and iterative (another form of actualization summarization).
