ABSTRACTThis study examines some factors contributing to bar coding system utilization in retailer business. A basic problem in this study connected with some factors are motive, constraint, and pre condition in bar coding system utilization for retailer, a company to utilize bar coding system has some criteria are reason, benefit and restrict. Bar coding system is important to drive effectiveness and efficiency for product circular flow and an integrated information system for retailer in away to implement the supply chain management. Exploratory study used with propose research question and in depth interview, data collected in semi-structured format from respondents in retailer business have been utilize bar coding system. This study found eight factors identified are motive, constraint and pre condition in bar coding system in retailer business. Five factors identified i.e. motive factor, operational performance improvement, effectiveness relation routine maintenance by supplier, business competitive, quick process. One factor identified as a constraint factor i.e. lack of comprehension about bar coding system. Two factors identified pre condition i.e. consistency and trust as well as support and sets of technology. Some reasons utilizing bar coding system are almost product in the market utilizing bar code, simplify transaction, and queuing reduction, need for retailer operational speed, modernization, trendsetter and business competitive also division coordination. Bar coding system benefits from utilizing bar coding system i.e. efficient, practically, careful, accuracy and as sales information source. A company has a constraint to utilize bar coding system i.e. undetected barcode, error problem to identified product, some product unimplemented bar code, renewing price and encoding, black out power supply, and human error. Implication for further research is identification of company size as a result connection between small retailer and big retailer in order to utilize bar coding system. logistic role, enough power supply in retailer level also retailer capability in computer literacy connected with bar coding system utilization optimal are integrated in retailer level.
