Description
Summary:Research on the possibility of using no-fines concrete as the structural material had been done by researchers. Research on reinforced concrete beams made of no-fines concrete indicated that the beam could be used as the structural element. At the ends of the beam the reinforcing steel had to be anchored to columns. The development length of the reinforcing steel and hook in the beam with light weight concrete, had been stated in the Indonesian Code for Reinforced Concrete Design (SNI-03-2847-1992) but it is still arguable if it is used for the no-fines concrete. Tests on specimens of the developed steel bars and hooks in the no-fines concrete under tensile force had been done. The plain reinforcing steel bars were 12 mm diameter, and the no-fines concrete was made of tile rubble as the coarse aggregate. The length of developed bars were 150 mm penetrated into the no-fines concrete to test the bond strength. whereas the length of the penetrated bars beyond the hooks were 100 mm to test the hook strength. The hooks were of three types, that were 90 degree, 135 degree, and 180 degree bends. The result indicated that the bond stress between reinforcing steel of plain bars and no-fines concrete was 0,565 MPa. and the factor of 1,33 for calculation of the development length of the bars referred to the SNI-03-2847-1992 specification is not proper. This factor needed to be changed to 4,60. The test on hooks indicated that the tensile strength of the hooks were too small. The analysis showed that the hooks were not efficient, therefore the use of the straigth development bar in the no-fines concrete beams is better than the hook.
