Description
Summary:The research aimed at utilizing Randu wood as raw material for cement particle board manufacturing. This research was expected to produce a standardized cement particle board. The raw material used in this research was Randu wood classified as small, medium and big dimension of particles. Two cement contents were 150% and 200%, while the catalyst was CaCl2 2%. Particles were soaked in water for 24 hours or steamed for 2 hours then air dried. Dried particles were then soaked in 2% CaCl2 for 30 minutes finally mixed by cement. Mixed particles and cement was directly put into a mat, and followed by pressing for 24 hours. The board was cutting into sample conforming with the DIN standard for testing physical and mechanical properties. The research concluded that an interaction between particle dimension and soaking treatment affected significantly only to water absorption MOR, MOE and absent in other parameters. Range of water absorption was 57-74%, modulus of rupture (MOR) was 8-16 kg/cm2 and modulus of elasticity (MOE) was 3.15 - 28.97 x 103 kg/cm2. The single factor of particle dimension affected significantly on moisture content in the range of 11.19 - 16.76 %. The percentage of cement affected significantly on moisture content, density, water absorption, swelling thickness, thickness reduction and modulus of rupture. Range of swelling thickness, thickness reduction and density were 0.66 - 3.75 %
