Summary:ABSTRACT This study is an attempt to reveal the connection between the text and its hypogram, especially how the transformation came into existence. It was an prominent thing to do as banjaran was created based on the existing cycles, so was Banjaran Gathutkaca. This Banjaran was created based on such cycles as Gathutkaca Lair, Gathutkaca Nagih Janji, Gathutkaca Krama, Brajadenta Mbalela, Aji Narantaka, Kala Bendana Lena, and Gathutkaca Gugur. To meet the need, the writer has to transcribe recordings, and than translates the transcription into Indonesian language. The next thing to do is to examine the structure of the text. Based on the structure on the text the writer realizes how to author combined the existing cycles into a new text. By making an observation the writer realizes that the goal of the transformation into Banjaran Gathutkaca (1983) was to preserve the existing seven traditional cycles. The transformation was done by condensing the seven cycles in such a way that what was left was their cores. The seven cores which has formed a new cycle are called episode, namely the episode of Gathutkaca's birth, of Gathutkaca's done, of Gathutkaca's marriage, of Brajadentas's rebellion, of Ajian Narantaka, of Kala Bendana' death, and of Gathutkaca's death.
