Description
Summary:ABSTRAK The behaviour of extractive column for separating minimum-boiling azeotropc using intermediate-boiling entrainer has been studied. Intermediate entrainers may form new azeotrope with one of the azeotropic components. Feasibility of extractive columns can be predicted using the behaviour of pinch point curve of the delta point. Extractive column feasibility highly depends upon lower feed and distillate compositions. Column can be feasible if the delta point is located below the distillate point on a standard distillation line snap (Sutijan, 2002). Among the examples studied. intersection of middle section and rectifying composition profiles can be obtained only within narrow ranges of both fied and product specification and reflux ratios. The results show that if the azeotropic components have .small differences of boiling point, the performance of extractive column is poor due to high number of stages and reflux ratios. Key words: azeotropic, double feed column, extractive column, pinch point curve
