The objective of the study was to evaluate the influence of various concentration of naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) to the seedling growth of the three species of bamboos Barnbusa vulgaris Schrad., Gigantochloa apus Kurz. and G. verticillata Munro. The study was carried out in the Field Experiment Station of INSTIPER at Maguwoharjo, Yogyakarta, with an altitude of 118 m above sea level and C type of climate, during 4 month of late dry season from September till December 1996. The samples of cut intemode of the bamboo culm were planted horizontally in the ground about 10 cm dept after putting the NAA solution inside the internode through the holes. The experiment was done using randomized complete block design, treated factorially with 3 blocks. The first factor was 4 levels of NAA concentration i.e 0, 50, 100 and 150 ppm while the second was the three species of bamboos studied. Data recording consisted of percentage of growing samples, total of the seedling growth, length of the seedling (cm), total of roots, length of roots (cm), dry weight of the seedling (g) and the dry weight of root (g). The results showed that all the NAA concentration had a significant effect on all parameters. From the average data recorded and the regression analysis it could be concluded that the 100 ppm concentration of the NAA performed the best. Interaction between NAA concentration and species of bamboos occured only on length of the seedling and total of roots parameters. Key words: bamboos propagation, NAA concentration,seedling growth.
