Summary: | Distillation is the most frequently used method of separation in chemical process industries and is well known as the energy consumer. So, a practice of decreasing energy requirement could have considerable impact on the existing distillation process. One of the candidates for reducing energy consumption is bottom flashing. In this system, the column and condenser are maintained at high pressure by means of a compressor installed between output vapor from reboiler and the column, while the pressure of the reboiler is maintained at atmospheric condition.
The purpose of this paper is to discuss the bottom flashing in distillation column from view point of separation performance and energy characteristics. It is found that this system is less energy consumption and exergy losses compared to the conventional column. |
