Description
Summary:Some studies on Indonesian teenager behavior indicated that part of them involved in pre-marital sexual intercourse. This behavior created some risks of infection diseases, such as clamydia, sexual transmitted diseases including HIV /AIDS, and unwanted pregnancy. Especially, unwanted pregnancy imposed some other problems including unsafe abortion, higher rates of delivery morbidity and mortality, premature natal and lower weight of newborn. There were multi-factors causes of sexual problems among teenagers. Family environment, structure and function of family, was considered as one of the factors causing sexual behavior problems among teenagers. This research was aimed to find out the relationship between structure and function of family with teenager premarital sexual behavior. This was an observational research with cross sectional design. The location of this research was in Ujungberung and Bandung. Subjects were teenagers of 15-19 years of ages and their parents. Samples were 120 respondents. Analysis consisted of univariate, bivariate and multivariate analyses. Moreover, chi square was used to examine the relationship between independent, external variables and dependent variable. In addition, logistic regression model was used to examine the most influenced variable, with significance level of 95 percent and P < 0.05. The results showed that there was no significant relationship between structure and function of family with pre-marital sexual behavior among teenagers (p=0.36 and p=0.69). In addition, based on multivariate analysis, it was found that only attitude had significant relationship with teenager pre-marital sexual behavior (p=0.00). This finding, therefore, was considered as dominant predictor variable of pre-marital sexual behavior among teenagers in Bandung, especially in Ujungberung area. It was concluded that this research showed that structure and function of family were not found as predictors for pre-marital sexual behavior among teenagers. Indeed, attitude became dominant predictor for pre-marital sexual behavior among teenagers. Keywords: premarital sexual behavior among teenagers family structure and function
