Diabetic neuropathy is a complication of diabetes mellitus (DM) involving the peripheral nervous system. This is the most common complication of DM. Diabetic pain is a pain occurred due to diabetic neuropathy. The pain is the most common complain of diabetic neuropathy patients attending clinicians.
Management of diabetic pain should begin with controlling the blood glucose, either by diet, oral anti-diabetic drugs or insulin injection. In addition, neurotropic drugs such as vitamin B complex, methylcobalamin, and ganglioside, can also be prescribed.
Physiotherapy and other supportive measures are required to enhance recovery.
The prognosis depends on the severity of nerve damage and the presence of other complications.
