Summary: | Peanut yield in upland area dominated with Alfisol is considered low due to nutrient deficiencies. The effects of N, P, K, and S fertilization on nutrients dynamic in Alfisol soil and peanut plant was studied during rainy season 1997/1998 and 1998/1999 at Gunungkidul subdistrict, Yogyakarta. -Two sets of experiment, were conducted using the randomized block design replicated four times. The first set consisted of eight combination of urea, TSP, and KCI fertilizers and the second one had six urea, ZA, TSP, and KCI fertilizers. The result showed that nitrogen and phosphorous fertilizers should be used for improving peanut performance in the Alfisol soil. Application of urea had to be combined with TSP and KCI but if using ZA Properly enough should be combined with TSP. Application of 25 kg/ha urea, 100 kg/ha TSP, and 100 kg/ha KCI or 100 kg/ha ZA and 100 kg/ha TSP were among the best treatments,' and the peanut yield were 2.0 and 2.5 i/h dry pod, respectively. The yield of peanut given no fertilizers was 0,9 - 1.0 t/ha of dry pod. In the other hand, application of 100 kg/ha TSP together with 50 kg urea/ha increased the rate of P available in the soil from "low" to "medium" level and absorption of P by plant increased at about 142%. The application of 100 kg ZA/ha increased the absorption rate of P available in the soil to a "high" level, as well as the absorption of P nutrient by plant to 200%,. Application of 100 kg/ha ZA increased S availability in the soil, more than 900 % and slightly decreased the soil pH from 6.6 to 6.4 but did not increase S absorption by plant.
