Summary:Vision impaired people can be classified into two groups : low vision and completely blind. Those with low vision still have some limited sight capabilities. The purpose of this study was to investigate the correlation between knowledge, perception and attitude of dental health compared to the actual dental health status between low vision and completely blind. An analytic survey using cross sectional design was carried out on 196 vision impaired people living in PSBN Wyata Guna Bandung. Dental health knowledge, perception and attitude were assessed using the questionnaire, which had been tested for validity and reliability. The visually impaired student personal dental health status was measured by their oral hygiene (OHI-S) and gingivitis (GI) scores. The test of Multiple Correlation and Regression was used to measure the correlation between the dental health knowledge, perception and attitude compared to their scored dental health status. The Chi Square Test was used to assess the difference of the dental health status between student with low vision and those who were completely blind. The significance level of statistic analysis was 95%. The result of study showed that there was no significant correlation between the knowledge, perception and attitude of dental health compared to the oral hygiene of completely blind student (p=0.101) as well as the low vision group (p=0.637). The was also no significant different between the dental health factors and gingivitis of the completely blind student (p=0.273) and the low vision group (p--.0.223). There was no significant different in the oral hygiene scores for formally educated vision impaired students compared to those who had no formal education (p=0.406). There was a significant different in the gingivitis scores for those student who had formal education as compared to those who had no formal education (p=0.035).
