Summary:Society was paying much more attention to pesantren with its integrated education system nowadays. But for children in the age of primary school (SD), could pesantren substitute the faction of family in developing children's religiousity and independency? To answer that question, this research was done.The subject was taken by purposive technique consisted of 111 SD students, 120 TPA students, and 85 pesantren students in Bantul, Yogyakarta.There were four scales to measure the religiousity, independency, parents' religious guidance, and parents' independent guidance. Anacova ABC 1 covariable was used to analyze data.Results of the analyses showed that: pesantren could substitute the faction of family in developing children's religiousity and independency. In fact, pesantren with its activities dan educational interactions lasting all the time was a nice mix of tutorial and brotherhood situations. The contribution of pesantren in developing children's religiousity and independency, almost in all their aspects, was much more interesting than those of what primary school (SD) and Islamic Special education (TPA) could do .
