Description
Summary:The objective of this research is to study the increase of heat transfer by using ainsertion in the form of spiral wire inside the tube. The research was conducted by passing water flow through the tube. Data were taken by measuring water flow rate, inlet and outlet temperatures, wall temperature, and inlet and outlet static pressures. By using the data, the increase of convection heat transfer can be plotted in respect to Reynolds number and physical geometri of the wire. The increase of heat transfer has some disadvantages such as increasing pressure drop along the tube. The increase of pressure drop represented in friction factor, can be plotted in respect to Reynolds number and physical geometri of the wire. Convection heat transfer enhancement can be defined as the ratio between an augmented Nusselt number to an empty tube Nuselts number which can be expressed mathematically as Nu /Nuo. The research shows that the increase of heat transfer is more significance in laminar flow region rather than turbulent flow region. Keywords: friction factor laminar flow turbulent flow
