Description
Summary:ABSTRACT A research_on species member of the genus Plumeria L. in Java was completed. This research was backgrounded by the fact that there were several differences of opinion among taxonomists dealing with exact number of species of the genus Plumeria L. in Java as well as the correct name of each species concerned. For that reason this research was conducted to overcome the taxonomic problems mentioned above. To achieve the research's goal, exploration and collection of herbarium specimen were conducted in several locations in Java, notably Yogyakarta and Bogor. In addition examination of herbarium specimens housed in BO, were taken as well. Method of identification used in this research was using key determinations available in several references related to this topic. The steps mentioned above were followed by composing descriptions and illustrations of each species. Result of this research showed that in Java there were 3 species of the genus Plumeria, e. g. P. obtusa L., P. rubra L., and P. alba L. Furthermore, the first two species mentioned above might be distinguished in 2 varieties, respectively as P. obtusa L. -var. obtusa, P. obtusa L. var. emarginata Boro et Rudjiman var. nov., P. rubra L. var. rubra and P. rubra L. var. erecta Boro et Rudjiman var. nov. By this way, two new varieties were proposed. Key words: Taxonomy, Plumeria L., Java
