Summary: | The aim of this study is to identify the effectiveness of emotion aware-ness training as a method to increase emotion awareness toward deaf ado-lescents. This effectiveness will be seen from the difference of two scores of ,emotion awareness scale, between pre-test and post-test. This study is very important because there are a lot of emotional problems experienced by deaf adolescents, which couldn't maximally overcome. In addition, there are lacks of studies that attempt to find out the effective method to increase quality of the deaf life, particularly in Indonesia. Emotion awareness is an ability of deaf adolescents to recognize their experienced emotional condition, iden-tify the causes of emotions and the possible effects of it, and attempt to choose the appropriate ways to express emotions. Emotion awareness is not merely useful for deaf adolescents to improve their self-management, but also to increase their ability in socializing and maintaining their interpersonal rela-tionship.
This is a one group pre-test post-test design of experimental study. Six deaf adolescents were the study subjects. They have no other diffabilities and have lost their hearing greater than 90 dB since they were born. Subjects are 13 -18 years of age, who study at SLB Bhakti Kencana Berbah, Yogyakarta, and have good academic achievement in their class.
