Description
Summary:ABSTRAK Malaria in pregnant mothers - Questions about malaria symptoms during last pregnancy, whether the JMD (Village Malaria Health Worker) took blood and gave medicine, whether mother took medicine, and symptoms of disorders during and after last pregnancy were asked to 151 mothers of infants in three highly endemic malaria sub-districts of the Baniarnegara District, Central Java. Cross-tabulations and C values revealed that, compared to other clinical symptoms, fever only (2.6%) has the highest correlation with whether JMD took blood (C = 0.18). Only 69.2% of the mothers of whom blood was taken were given medicine by jMD (C = 0.62), and 81.5% of the latter actually took the medicine (C = 0.66). There were three prevalent symptoms of disorders during and after pregnancy (> 10%) which correlated highly (C > 0.20, controlling for medication) with malaria symptoms, i.e.: weakness during pregnancy, post-partum bleeding and fret:Rent infant diarrhea. Key words: endemic malaria, reproductive wastage, active case finding, health worker compliance, patient compliance.
