Summary:Background: This study was an evaluation (via pilot intervention. which adopted the supple-Mein feeding model to minimise the impact of economic crisis on nutritional status of infant and children aged 6 � 23 month in poor families of Yogyakarta. from October 1998 to May 1999. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the implementation of supplementary feeding in health sector-social safety net programme and to determine the effect of program in nutritional status. Method: This study used longitudinal design. In addition. one group pre-post evaluation design was employed to evaluate the effect of program. The data were primary and secondary utilising qualitative and quantitative approaches. Data were collected using questionnaires, observations, and in-depth interviews. in addition to administering assessed relevant documents. Sampling was conducted using the proportional random sampling method. Results: The result of this study indicated that not all of the procedures and standards in the guidelines were implemented. There was a mismatch between the budget plan and the budget allocated. This program was perceived to increase workload with insufficient unit cost allocation to support it. The realization of budget was low and delayed. Also. this study found that not all of the supplementary food were consumed by the targeted population. The program coverage was 64,71 percent. the level of public participation was 60,00 percent, the level of targeted Far monitored growth was 92.73 percent. the success of the program was 51,37 percent. and the success of weighing was 85.62 percent. The targeted population at the beginning of the program consisted of malnourished status about 21.18 percent. At the end this study, the nutritional status of targeted showed that about 94.91) percent was constant, 2.75 percent was increased and 2,35 percent was decreased. However, this study indicated that there was no difference of the nutritional status of targeted population between pre and post intervention.
