Abstract Transport energy consumption is a consequence of transport activities. The amount of energy consumed by individuals who travel or move from one place to another represent the effectiveness of the transport system as well as sustainability of current transportation system. In determining the final energy consumption for each mode, several factors must be considered. Among others the important ones are: type of modes, type of fuels, level of occupancy, and speed. The interaction between urban structure and transport system yields the energy required by the city to perform its activity. For the same city size, the level of energy consumption is not equal, and it depends upon the system performance of exixting transport infrastructure and facility configuration. The use of energy consumption can reflect the dictatorship of the future which is one of the principles in the sustainable transportation policy.
