Summary: | Background: The prevalence of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia is continuously increasing. A poor understanding on proper diet may lead to an uncontrolled .nutrition intake of diabetic patients, which in turn leads to uncontrolled blood glucose level. Objective: To assess the effect of nutrition counseling with a dietary standard in controlling nutrition intake and blood glucose level.
Method: The study was a quasy experimental with a pre and post-test control group design. Subjects of this study consisted Of 44 diabetic patients receiving nutrition counseling with a dietary standard and 45 diabetic patients receiving nutrition counseling without a dietary standard. Nutrient intake of each individual was estimated by using multiple 24 hour recalls conducted 2 weeks after intervention. Fasting and 2 hour-post prandial blood glucose levels of each individuals were measured at the start of the study, the 3rd week and the 5th week alter intervention.
