ABSTRACT Background: Chronic renal failure is a global health problem. Incidence of chronic renal failure is increasing and causes increase of health cost because chronic renal failure leads to cardiovascular disease and death at young age. In 2010 it is predicted that there are more than 2 million dialysis patients all over the world and more than 4 million people die due to chronic renal failure. Nursing care as professional nursing service standard needs to be continuously improved considering nurses as patients' attendants for 24 hours. Quality improvement of nursing care may use standard of North American Nursing Diagnose (NANDA), Nursing Outcome Classification (NOC) and Nursing Intervention Classification (NIC), because they all can be accepted and support all aspects of nursing process and can be accepted in all areas of nursing. Objective: To get an overview of relevance of use of nursing diagnose among chronic renal failure using standard of NANDA, NOC and NIC at Dr. Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta. Method: This was a descriptive study which used document analysis technique approach. It was done to chronic renal failure patients hospitalized from January-June 2005 by observing result of nursing care documentation of chronic renal failure at Dr. Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta. As much as 28% from 203 that was taken from medical record that full fill inclusion criteria of patients were randomly taken from population of patients hospitalized from January � June 2005. Method of data collection used was observation of nursing care document result of chronic renal failure patients. Result and Conclusion: Relevance on use of nursing diagnose based on NANDA on Taxonomy II 2001/2002 was 55,17%, on use of NOC was 62,58%, on use of NIC was 60,00%, relevance on implementation was 24.09%, comparison between nursing diagnose of nursing care standard and NANDA was 100% relevant, relevance between nursing care standard and NOC was 53.84%, and relevance between intervention of nursing care standard and NIC was 40%.
