Description
Summary:In some rural area in Indonesia, farmers usually graze their goats during the day and house them at night. The goats eat grass without additional concentrate, there fore their productivities are low. However, grass-fed goats are more advisable since the goats will produce lower internal fat around heart and kidneys. This study will investigate grass-fed goats with different management system. About 16 heads of Kacang buck, aged 1 – 1.5 year (the incisors have erupted 1), having the initial body eeight of 18.4+1.68 kg (CV=9.17%) were used in this study. The 12 goats were reared extensively by 3 farmers @ 4 heads) in Grobogan, Central Java, Indonesia, and 4 heads were reared extensively in the research station, Diponegoro University in Semarang. Parameter observed were the averege daily gain and nutrient intake during 1 weeks of observation. The average daily gains (ADG) of the bucks were 18.5+18.3 grams (Laboratory). Low ADG of the bucks reared by farmers were caused by low nutrient intake and worm infection. It can be concluded that the performances of grazing Kacang bucks reared by farmirs in rural area were lower than those of grass-fed Kacang buck reared by farmers in rural area were lower than those of grass-fed Kacang buck reared with better management.
