Toxicological Effects of Aflatoxin B1 on Liver Function of Broiler
Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is considered the most toxic. The effect of AFB1 on performance of broiler was demonstrated elsewhere. Those adverse effects on health unexpected and commonly associated with dose and dependence a long exposure. Aflatoxin B1 is associated with liver failure. Glutamic Pyruvic Tran...

Aflatoxin B1 is associated with liver failure. Glutamic Pyruvic Transaminase (GPT) are useful biomarkers of intact liver function. Thirty-six day old chick were equally divided into four group, three replication and six chicks each, Group I was control without administrated AFB1, then AFB1 was administrated to the experimental group II, III and IV (500, 1000, 1500 ppm). The experiment was conducted for five weeks period from 1 to 6 week, AFB1 was administrated 0,2 ml orally daily. At 21 and 42 day GPT was analyzed. Statistical significance between the different group was determined by one way analysis of variance (Anova), using SPSS software package 16. Posthoc testing was performed for intergroup comparisons using the Duncan Test. Aflatoxin B1 at dose of 500, 1000 and 1500 ppm significantly increased (P<0.005). The GPT level, 9.43, 10.78 and 13.48 mg/dl (21 day) and 12.58, 13.48 and 14.83 mg /dl (42 day).
