Description
Summary:Coal Bed Methane (CBM) is one of unconventional resource that shows great promise forfuture energy needs, especially in Indonesia, which has a quite large potential. However, oneof the most important things from CBM research is the gas content. Gas content used todetermine the potential and reserves of CBM. In addition, the characteristics of coal are animportant factor in understanding the quality and quantity of gas content. According to theseexplanations, the research area that located in Mangunjaya, Musi Banyuasin Regency, SouthSumatra was conducted to prove the relationship between gas content and coalcharacteristics. In this study, log data, proximate analysis data, ultimate analysis data, petrographic analysis data, and gas content analysis data were used. The method in thisresearch used a statistical approach to find the relationship between gas content and coalcharacteristics. The sample used in the study consists of 43 core samples from 2 wells thathad been analyzed in the laboratory. Statistically, the research area obtained trends fromseveral factors of coal characteristics that influence the high of gas content, such as lowmoisture content, high volatile matter, high caloric value, high carbon, and hydrogen content, low oxygen content, and high liptinite content. All these things affected the quality andquantity of gas content in Mangunjaya area which has good gas potential to be developed forCBM.
