Description
Summary:Bathymetric survey is commonly carried out by using echosounder equipped with GPS (Global Positioning System). Boat / ship has been conventionally used as a platform for this kind of work. One of the main factors that influence the effectiveness of bathymetric survey using a boat / ship is in the flexibility of doing the survey along and across the survey lanes. In the narrow waters (small dam, settling pond area and so on), this activities are always constrained. Alternative vehicle that has been widely developed is a remotely controlled mini boat called USV (Unmanned Survey Vessel). Based on the result of the previous research, the most suitable type of USV for bathymetric survey in narrow waters is catamaran USV due to the flexibility and stability of the platform. Nevertheless, all the previous works still used SPS (Standard Positioning Services) or DGPS (Differential GPS) for the survey lane positioning, where the accuracy is in meter level. In this research, the application of RTK (Real Time Kinematic) GPS for USV survey lane positioning in bathymetric survey is evaluated. The GPS receiver used in this research is an OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) GPS, Ublox LEA-6T series. The RTK GPS positioning is conducted by an application called RTKLib. From the experiments it is known that RTK system is suitable to be used for survey lane positioning in bathymetric survey using USV. This system can provide series of data with better density. It can be concluded that the solution of RTK positioning is better than the built-in GPS positioning systems of the echosounder. The survey lane position given by the GPS of the echosounder generally deviated at 20m from the lane position of the RTK positioning system. Further research is required since most of the RTK solution obtained in this experiment was float solution.
