Agricultural Land Management Agronomy Cucumber is one of the usefu; vegetable and it is often used for healthy, beauty and culinary. in celebes, especially in Gorontalo and Palu, some local cucumbers are widely consumed. study on chromosome characterization has never been done on celebes local cucumber. in fact, the research is very useful to complete the identification of this plant. for this reason, chromosomes of celebes local cucumber were characterized. squash metodh was used for chromosome preparation. the result showed that time of mitosis stages occured at 08.30-10.30 am in Gorontalo cucumber and 08.30-11.00 am in palu cucumber with time of prometaphase stages of Gorontaalo cucumber was at 08.55-09.00 am, Palu 1 cucumber was at 08.50-08.55 am and Palu 2 cucumber was at 09.00-09.05 am. the similarity of cell cycle time is supposedly caused of these local cucumber are in same genus. Gorontalo cucumber has similar diploid (2n) chromosome number = 24 with karyotype formula 2n=2x=24 m and is concluded as timun suri. Palu cucumbers have similar diploid (2n) chromosome number = 14 with karyotype formula 2n=2x=14 m and are concluded as cucumbers (Cucumis sativus). the R value of Gorontalo, Palu 1, and Palu 2 local cucumbers respectively are 2.00, 2.21, and 2.45.
