Summary: | A research study was conducted on health and worker safety (HWS) behaviors, blood leucocytes content, correlation between HWS behaviors and radiation dosage, radiation dosage and leucocytes content of the workers in the Kartini reactor, and the dosage on Dosage Value Limit (DVL). The study was conducted by giving a questionnaire to 25 workers who expressed in writing their willingness to be respondents. The questionnaire consisted of 15 items with 4 options, with a scale of 1-4; the score ranged from 15 to 60. The reliability of the questionnaire was assessed by the Cronbach’s Alpha technique and the validity by the product moment correlation technique using the SPS program. The obtained correlation coefficient were compared to the coefficient in the r table with the significance level of p=0.05. The contents of the leucocytes and radiation dosage were obtained from the documents available in the section of Health and Safety in the Center for Accelerator Technology and Material Process Batan Yogyakarta. The contents of the leucocytes were distributed in accordance to the frequency and the dosages were analyzed using the SPSS program to be described. The research results showed that the 15 items in the questionnaire were valid and the questionnaire was reliable. Of the 25 research respondents, 80% showed good, 16% moderately, 4% fairly, and no respondents showed poor behaviors. The lowest score was 35 and highest score was 60 with a mean of 53.2. The lowest content of leucocytes (/ml) in 1996 was 4700 and the highest was 9600 with a mean of 7108. There were 12% respondents whose leucocytes content was more than 9000, 80% respondent whose leucocytes content was 5000-9000, and 8% respondents whose leucocytes content was less than 5000. The mean of the radiation dosage according to the descriptive statistics was 1.303 mSv from 1996 to 2006, the highest mean of the radiation dosage was 2.0533 mSv in 1998, and the lowest was 0.9 mSv in 2001. In accordance to the bivariate analysis for the alternative hypothesis “there is a correlation between HWS behaviors and the radiation dosage of the workers in the Kartini reactor” and the null hypothesis “there is no correlation between HWS behaviors and the radiation dosage of the workers in Kartini reactor”. The conclusion of the study was that the HWS behaviors of the workers in the Kartini reactor Yogyakarta were in the good category: the content of leucocytes was also tn the normal category (5000-9000/ml). There was a significant negative correlation between the HWS behaviors and the radiation dosage of the workers in the Kartini reactor. The better the HWS behaviors were, the lower the radiation dosage was; and conversely, the worse the HWS behaviors were, the higher the radiation dosage was. There was no correlationbetween the radiation dosage and the leucocytes content of the worker. The radiation dosage was far below 50 mSv/year, and the mean of the radiation dosage was 1.303 mSv from 1996 to 2006. |
