The purpose of this study was to estimate the recreational value of Alam Indah Tegal Beach, Indonesia. To be able to give an estimate of the recreational value an economic valuation of Alam Indah Beach using two different valuation methods on the one dataset � the Travel Cost Method and the Contingent Valuation Method � and in doing so test convergent validity, whether they are consistent with each other. Various factors influence the value visitors and willingness to pay obtain from the Alam Indah Beach - these include travel cost, income, age, the quality and the substitution of the site. This study results that the Willingness-to-Pay for entrance responses tend to cluster around Rp30.000 per adult equivalent per trip. The TCM results of consumer surplus, which should be the same as WTP, are more variable depending on which sample is analysed and range between Rp127.706 and Rp383.364 per adult equivalent per trip. No correlation between these two variables was found. It seems that there are problems in getting people to state their true WTP. This is possibly due to a misinterpretation of the question by respondents as well as a tendency to understate value for a Alam Indah Beach entrance fee added. But that way the study using two different valuation methods recommends same thing that a Alam Indah Beach entrance fee of Rp30.000 per person be introduced, which could be utilized for a Alam Indah Beach management. This would generate nearly Rp12.080.827.000 in revenues annually, a sizable amount of money that represents about 12,75 percent of the regional actual revenues, allocated to the environment development program in Tegal City, Indonesia
