Description
Summary:Indonesian tropical forests are community which has high biodiversity of plants. Ground vegetation as one of the formers of the forest ecosystem is the plants that have potential to inhibit cancer cell growth. Relationship among forest components, including plants will interact each other to form an ecosystem with unique characteristics and complex relationships. There are many biological activities from chemical constituents of ground vegetation which is still not used as research topic. Therefore, this potential should be utilized in humanity interests and also used to preserving these plants by explore the potential of those to be used as drug. This research held in swamp forest area in Sentarum Lake National Park. Research area is 5 ha, with 0.4 % sampling intensity, and plot area of 4 m2 so it can be obtained 50 plots. Method used in this research is systematic sampling. Parameters tested are density, frequency, importance value index and species diversity. Anticancer bioactivity test of ground vegetation extract is done by testing the cytotoxic activity to mortality of shrimp larvae using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT). It is founded that from 60 ground vegetation which are found at research area, 42 species of those are included in medicinal ground vegetation. Cytotoxic test using Brine Shrimp Lethality Test method shows from 42 species medical ground vegetation, there are 23 species which have potential in producing cytotoxic with LC50 less than 1.000 ppm. Riang Bejid (Medinilla crassifolia) has highest density, frequency, importance value index and Shannon diversity index than others ground vegetation
