Summary:Nowadays, the development of the creative industries can not be separated from the information technology (IT). IT has become an important factor in improving the performance of the creative industries. IT-based creative industry so far has been getting enough attention as a prospective industry in the future when natural resources become fewer. Yogyakarta has potential advantages in the areas of culture, tourism and education that maybe taken advantage of to develop IT-based creative industry. The availability of IT-based creative industry gives a lot of benefit. How ever its potential has not been exploited yet. This thesis describes the existing condition and performance of various type of Information Technology (IT)-based creative industry, and then proposes the strategies to develop Yogyakarta using the IT-based creative industry. The results of this study indicate that IT-based creative industries in Yogyakarta are not evenly distributed in the form of types and products. This characteristic requires efforts to develop entrepreneurs who posses a more varied abilities in the field of ITbased creative industry. Technical support for business development needs to involve experts in this field. Location or place of business is a concern, although this business does not really require a fixed location unlike manufacturing industries. Strategic location in order to facilitate access and retention of the customer is desirable, to establish a brand image. Spatial location is also an important factor to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in terms of business marketing. The strategies for development need to be adjusted in accordance with the local conditions. The major considerations include: the market analysis, networks for distribution, start-up support, advertisement, and networking. When these are combined effectively, it will create business climate condusive to development for all industrial sectors in Yogyakarta. Several stages are distinguished by the various countries in carrying out development for the creative industry. a. Assessment and prioritization of the creative industry in Yogyakarta. b. Strengthening the capability of institutions. c. Development of the utilities, infrastructure and supporting technology. d. Aglomeration and networking. e. Selection of the alternative strategies and analysis of conditions for stimulating the production and consumen demand
