Summary: | The Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) is a
combination of ten countries in southeast Asia with a total population of more
than 500 million people. ASEAN member countries are geographically close to
each other and interact with each other. Nevertheless , ASEAN economic
integration has made efforts since 1976 and has produced some form of economy
today.
This thesis will examine in depth about the implementation of ASEAN
Free Trade Agreement (AFTA) through the stages and principles of integration
and political obstacles to regional integration in Southeast Asian region
(ASEAN). Chapter I of this thesis contains a preface, where in this chapter
consists of background problems, the formulation of the problem, a framework of
thinking, the main argument, research methods, systematic plan of writing.
Chapter II contains a description of the background of the emergence of the idea
of Economic Integration in the ASEAN region w ithin the framework of AFTA.
Chapter III D iscusses the stages and principles of ASEAN integration through the
establishment of AFTA. Chapter IV Discussing the political constraints faced by
the AFTA to improve the integration of the ASEAN region. While Chapter V is
the conclusion.
The results showed that to achieve the regional integration of ASEAN
preferential market integration is necessary stages, free trade areas, market the
uniform, common market, economic union and integration total economic and
principles - the principle of regional integration is a functional relationship or
concept expansion, increased transactions , relationship negotiation and unity of
policy, bureaucratic socialization, formation of regional groups , the comparison of
identity or ideology, the involvement of external actors in the process.
Furthermore, the increasing integration of the ASEAN region, there are political
obstacles include security issues that border conflicts and the conflicts of
ideology, namely the orientation of government policy interests, ability to
negotiate and change of leadership, and institutional problems of the ASEAN
secretariat and the weakness of the mechanism the CEPT. |
