Description
Summary:Echoes of the family planning program in the community lately decline followed by a decline in government performance in the field of demography. This condition is one of them because the institution in charge of family planning programs in the district/city has been significantly reduced since the issuance of regulations the government of Indonesia number 38 year 2007 (about the division of governmental affairs between the government). And this affects the prevalence rate of contraceptive use (contraceptive prevalence rate/CPR) was not significantly increased in the last five years, from 60.3 percent for all manner of contraception in 2002 (IDHS 2002-2003) to 61.4 percent in year 2007 (IDHS 2007). In an effort to boost the re-issue of family planning program BKKBN as the institutions authorized to handle it, has adopted a policy of IEC (Information Communication and Education) as a promotional efforts and community mobilization to increase demand for contraceptives as part of government policy to control population growth. This activity is one of them in the form of IEC through mass media. This study aims to analyze the role of mass media in influencing attitudes towards participation of family planning. While women never married who are exposed to family planning messages through mass media and become participants KB of 58.3%, with p0.005 (p value = 0.000). The relationship of mass media's role in influencing attitudes towards family planning keikutssertaan seen with the control variables of education level, residence, desire to have children again and the number of children still alive, each of which has a significant relationship with p0.005 (p value = 0.000) Television is the medium most viewers suck it is recommended that policy makers in promoting more use of family planning messages on television, then radio and newspapers. Required separate campaign model for the highly educated women. The emergence of other media such as religious leaders, community, doctors, midwives, and family planning cadres can be used as a vehicle for delivering messages and information on family planning, these media could be the parties that influence decision making in the use of contraception. It needs a strategy of repetition (redudancing) messages and information on family planning. Repetition of this family planning message will remind people that family planning programs is important. Before BKKBN make the right design in campaigning and informing the family planning program, it should be considered is the geographical characteristics, time, type of media and forms of contraception have a match with their respective media.
