Description
Summary:Fluoride ion contained in GIC restoration could be released either to the tooth structure and into saliva. One of the things that affect the release is the pH of the oral cavity. GIC setting reaction is acid-base reaction and will cause an acid stimulus in saliva, especially up to polimerizations completed. This acid in the oral cavity could stimulate the salivary glands to secrete saliva. The higher secretion of saliva, the higher the pH of saliva. The purpose of this study was to correlate the level of fluoride ion release of Fuji VII GIC restoration with volume and pH saliva based on time. This study performed on 13 children at Elementary School on district Dlingo aged 6-8 years old whom completed the inclusion criteria. GIC Fuji VII was restored on maxillary deciduous teeth on each subject. Fluoride level, pH and saliva volume was measured on day 0, 1 st , 10 th , 30 th and 60 th . Level of fluoride on saliva was examined with spectrofotometri DR 2000. Saliva pH was examined with pH meter and saliva volume with measuring glass. Spearman Correlation statistical analysis showed there was positive and significant correlation between level of fluoride release and saliva volume on day 10 th and 30 th which most closely related on day 10 th (r=0.923 ,p = 0.001). The negative and significant corelation between level of fluoride release and saliva pH showed on day 10 th and 30 th which most closely related on day 10 th (r=0.896, p = 0.000). The positive, significant and closely correlation between volume and pH saliva showed in each observation time (day 0, 10th, 30 th and 60th). The Conclusion on day 10th and 30th show the higher the fluoride ion release from Fuji VII SIK restoration it will be followed by an increase in salivary volume and the higher the fluoride ion release from Fuji VII SIK restoration it will be followed by a decrease in salivary pH. At each observation time showed the higher the volume of saliva will be followed by an increase in salivary pH.
