Biological effects of radiation, the interraction of ionizing radiation the body, arising either from external sources out side the body or from internal contamination of the body by radiactive substances, leads to biological effects which may later show up as clinical symptoms. In addition the concrete must be able to reduce the radiation of the atomic substance during its operatio n. Since the ability of concrete to absorb Gamma ray is almost proportional to its density. The density of concrete can be increased by using aggregates that have higher atomic number and of high specific gravity. The thickness of shielding required depend on the activity and energy of the source and on the dose rate and protection capability of the shielding material. In this research, Cesium-137 with 662 keV, will be used as Gamma ray sources. The materials of concrete consist of iron sand and tailing with the thickness from 3 cm up to 10 cm Results of the study shows that specific gravity of heavy concrete as much as 3.618 gr/cm3, specific gravity of ironsand aggregates as much as 3.655 gr/cm 3 and specific gravity of lailing aggregates as much as 2.726 gr/cm3, the compression strength of concrete at 28 days of age as much as 67.661 MPa [Yogyakarta] : Universitas Gadjah Mada 2011 Thesis NonPeerReviewed , Robianus Hara and , Prof. Ir.
