Summary: | This research aims to: (1) analyze the educational inequality across districts/
cities in Central Java province and decomposition of inequality among groups in the
region (districts/cities and pantura/non pantura), (2) analyze the typology of the
districts/cities based on three kinds of criteria: growth rate and per capita GRDP,
inequality of education and per capita GRDP, educational inequality and poverty, and
(3) the relationship of education Gini coefficient and averages years of schooling, the
relationship of education Gini coefficient and per capita GRDP and analyze the factors
that affect educational inequality. The data used were secondary data ie data on per
capita GRDP, the ratio of road to the districts/cities area, educational attainment, local
government spending in education, life expectancy and the percentage of poor residents
of each districts/cities in Central Java province for 5 years from 2005 to 2009. Analysis
tool used is the Gini coefficient, Klassen Typology, and pooled generalized least
squares, with panel data techniques using a fixed effect model.
Using the Gini coefficient of inequality analysis tool, found that the averages
level of educational inequality in Central Java province is 0.332 (low level). During the
observation period, inequality has a tendency to increase, although somewhat volatile.
The biggest contributor to inequality is the disparity between regions of pantura and
non pantura.
Use of the typology criteria will result in differences in the classification of
districts/cities in Central Java. Brebes, Pemalang, Klaten, Wonogiri and Blora District
is the worst area in all three regions typology criteria. The average years of schooling is negatively related significantly to the education Gini coefficient, GRDP per capita is
positively related significantly to the education Gini coefficient. Indicators of health,
education spending, infrastructure and poverty affects educational inequality. |
