and the population of 770.753. Mahakam river is one of the most important
transportation infrastructure in the East Kalimantan Province. Despite of the
turbid and brownish water because of soil particles, mud and even heavy metal
element from industrial waste and activities from people who live near the river, it
still remains the pride of East Kalimantan, especially Samarinda and Kutai
Kartanegara.
The research uses Moringa Oleifera seed powder as a natural adsorbent in
the adsorption process to reduce the level of iron ions (Fe2+), turbidity and to
increase the pH value of the water in the Mahakam river. It uses coconut shell
charcoal to eliminate odors from the adsorption process with Moringa Oleifera
seed. The raw material is water from Mahakam river with the dosage variation of
Moringa Oleifera seed powder ( 0,8 g/L, 1 g/L, 3 g/L dan 5 g/L ) and the time of
precipitation (0 minute, 15 minute, 30 minute, 60 minute, 90 minute, 120 minute,
150 minute and 180 minute).
The result shows that the Moringa Oleifera seed powder able to reduce the
concentration of iron ions, turbidity and increase pH value of water. Moringa
Oleifera seed contain cationic protein compounds and active rhamnosyloxybenzil-
isothiocyanate that use able to adorp and neutralize mud particles and metal
that are contained in wastewater with floating waste particle in the water. From
variety the dosage of the Moringa Oleifera seed powder and the time of
precipitation, it is obtained optimum value in 1 liter water with 1 g/L of Moringa
Oleifera seed powder and 60 minute contact time with the results of iron ion
reduction (Fe2+) 3.786 mg/L to Fe2+0.192 mg/L (down to 94.93 %), reduction of
turbidity level from 30.6 NTU to 3.96 NTU and pH water to 6.32. |
