Description
Summary:Background: The spread of nitrates in wells water in Purbayan Village, Sub District Kotagede, Yogyakarta need immediate attention to prevention efforts in order not to place the potential for outbreaks due to nitrate pollution, because most people used the water wells as a source of clean water. Wells water containing high nitrate is harmful to human health. Objective: This study is intended as an effort to ensure the water quality wells as sources of clean water. In addition, this study aims to determine whether environmental factors and demographic factors associated with the spread of nitrate in water wells by using spatial analysis. Method: The study is a survey research with cross sectional approach. The independent variable is the environmental factor which consists of distance of wells to domestic waste disposal sites, the distance between wells and silver industrial waste disposal sites and demographic factors in the form of in-house over crowding. As a dependent variable in this research is the vulnerability of the region against the spread of nitrates. The two variables of this study will be analyzed whether there is a influential relationship between variables by performing spatial analysis with geographic information systems. Results: The level of vulnerability of the region known to the spread of nitrate in Purbayan village has included a high level. The case of the spread of nitrate in wells water in Purbayan village is not related to in-house over crowding (p = 0.294) and not related to distance between wells water and industrial waste disposal facilities (p = 0.261). The case of the spread of nitrate in water wells in Purbayan village is related distance water wells to household waste disposal facilities (septic tanks) that less than 11.41 m (p = 0.000). Test of known spatial dependence does not show any dependence between the cases of the spread of nitrate with the studied variables (p = 0.189). Clustering of cases the spread of nitrate occur with a tendency approaching distance wells to septic tanks <11.41 m, 100-105 m altitude region and is not affected by the existence of drainage channels as well as the burial place of the general local population. Conclusions: (1). wells water in Sub Purbayan vulnerable to the spread of nitrate, (2) the case of the spread of nitrate in wells caused by the distance wells water from the household waste disposal facilities (septic tanks) is less than 11.41 m, (3). cases the spread of nitrate in wells water in Purbayan village is not related to in house over crowding and distance wells water from industrial waste disposal facilities, (4). cases the spread of nitrate in water wells do not follow the pattern of spatial distribution of the studied variables.
