Description
Summary:A preliminary study have been carried out to observe the influence of the tidal force as a trigger for earthquakes with magnitude M 6.4 in Indonesia from 2001 to 2011. Tidal force was calculated by using Gotic2 program developed by the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. The GOTIC2 program was tested by comparing its result with the observed gravity data for 10 days at Jalan Kenari Yogyakarta (7° 47 '55.14'' S and 110° 23' 16:41'' E, with elevation 109.12 m above sea level). 53 earthquakes events were studied to correlate with tidal force by calculating the tidal phase angle at the time of the earthquake happen. From this study it is found that 87% of earthquakes at the time of maximum tidal force. This support the indicated that tidal force can trigger earthquakes. For the analysis shows that M = 6.4 Yogyakarta at 26 Mei 2006 was triggered by tidal effect.
