Summary: | Kulon Progo is a potential district for layer chicken in Yogyakarta
province. Avian Influenza have been detected in layer chicken in Kulon Progo
District since 2003. The farmers have vaccinated the flocks and increased
biosecurity to control AI in layer chicken. The diseases become endemic
especially in native chicken, but there is no case report anymore in layer chicken.
The aims of this study were to investigate death proportion of layer chicken in the
district due to AI, and to find factors that influence in the death of layer chicken
caused by AI.
A cross sectional study was applied in this study. A total of 156 samples
dead layer chicken from 36 farmers the district was need throughout he study.
Rapid test was applied on the virus detection from oropharynk swab and the virus
from lung, brain and trachea was inoculated into the allantoic cavity of 8 - 10
day-old embryoned eggs was taken to analyse the presence of AI. Positive AI was
indicated if one or two of the analyses result was positive.
The AI contributes to the mortality of layer chicken in Kulon Progo
District as high as 21,15 %. Logistic regression model showed that the death due
to AI in layer chicken was increased by open fence (regression coef + 6,60055 |
