Summary:The quality of electrical power can be called good when current and voltage wave is in pure sinusoidal form, the phases differ from each other 180 degrees and the fundamental frequency is 50 Hertz. If does not sinusoidal form, it means there is a problem in electrical power it is the presence of harmonics. The damage waveform is generally triggered by non-linear loads, one of which is the Variable Speed Drive (VSD). Harmonics generated by the VSD is very annoying when the harmonics quantition exceeds the harmonics standards established by the IEEE standard 519-1992. This study aims to determine the effect of single-tuned passive filters to reduce the current and voltage harmonics on a three-phase power grid by VSD 3kW with 1.5 kW induction motor. The design of passive filter was done based on analyzed a quantity of harmonics in VSD when it was loaded by induction motor. Based on the research results it can be seen that the single-tuned passive filters are arranged three-phase star connection, it has a great influence in reducing the harmonic current distortion. The rate voltage harmonics before and after the filter installed does not exceed the allowable limit. But value of harmonic currents before reinstalling the filter exceeds the allowable standard limits. At the time of VSD is not loaded harmonic currents THDI = 70.4%, and when the load of induction motor reached 4.8 N / m, the current harmonics THDI = 125%. When there are no load after having installed the filter, the harmonic currents THDI 19.6%. When there is full load the current harmonics is THDI = 34.2%. The use of filter absorb the additional power of 24 watts.
