Suryanto, MSP, ETD Exaggerated increasing population is a phenomenon in Indonesia. This number will affect on the people livelihood. More lands are demanded to be primary living income with agriculture livelihood. Condition of those lands might have potential natural or people made hazards. People who live in mountainous area have similar threat of hazards, landslides, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and fire. With the condition of Indonesia as an archipelago country and lined with mountainous and volcanoes, major geological disasters are became threads to human live. Landslides have caused many casualties and losses. Mountainous areas are suspected to be the first priority of potentially landslide prone areas. Tawangmangu District with 6,251 km 2 is on the Lawu Mountainous areas. The 12 recorded landslide occurrences and numerous unrecorded in the past 7 years made 79 % of settlement areas in danger and 35,624 people are threaten. The vegetable garden has been deteriorated the landslide potential hazard. Heuristic approach with GIS modeling is a tool to evaluate and describe the distribution of landslide potential hazard. It shows that almost 57,9 % or 3,619.08 Ha is in high landslide potential hazard. And the qualitative descriptive approach is used to express the people perception lived in human vulnerability hotspot. People have a relatively good perception about the basic knowledge of landslide hazard, the potential location, and mitigation and prevention actions. The enhancements of knowledge on landslide hazard and landslide countermeasure construction are required to reduce the landslide hazard.
