Description
Summary:
This study was design to determine antioxidant activity from extract of the stem bark of Garcinia forbesii King. Each extract was tested for its antioxidant properties based on scavenging activity study using the stable 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) free radikal. An antioxidant compound has been isolated from methanol fraction of stem bark of G. forbesii by using column chromatography yielded tetraioxigenated xanthones. Their structures were elucidated by analysis of spectroscopic data, including 1D and 2D NMR. Extract n-hexane, dichloromethane, methanol and isolated compound of the stem bark of G. forbesii showed percentation inhibition at 8.87%, 92.6%, 85% and 82.39% respectively.
